GREENINGS; ON THE ROAD TO THE FIRST CLIMATE POSITIVE REGION OF THE NETHERLANDS
In recent years, much has happened in "Groeningen". The managing nature and water organizations, together with the authorities, have realized peat bogs and thus the largest nature and water storage areas in the Netherlands. In the more western part these are the Marumerlage, the Onlanden and the Drentsche Aa National Park. On the southeast side of the city, the Hunze flows naturally through the built environment. To the east of the city, 't Roegwold has been developed, a completely new wilderness. Together with the beautiful lakes, Groeningen is a natural pearl of allure situated against the city of Groningen.
The significance for the city of Groningen and the larger village centers is increasing, they are the lungs of the city. But few people know that yet. All the more reason to increase awareness and to see and strengthen the area as a whole. Groeningen also offers plenty of opportunities for climate adaptation and water safety, and the 'bottom-up' transition to sustainable and meaningful entrepreneurship. In short, plenty of opportunities to become the first climate-positive region in the Netherlands. Education, entrepreneurs, organizations and governments are joining forces under the auspices of the Groningen-Assen Regional Office.
'Spatial Quality and Climate; living and working intertwined with nature reserves, waters, new recreational nature, forests and other CO2 binding landscapes to be laid. ' On which goals do we focus from an integrated approach towards a climate-positive region? Click on the button below!
The network of Groeningen is looking for the perfect balance between nature conservation, nature experience and economy. This means that Groeningen is not only the green fitness, but perhaps even the first eco startup center from the Netherlands. To achieve this, good cooperation is needed between all parties involved in the area.
